ZF to supply new TraXon to Iveco

A letter of intent signed at the IAA Commercial Vehicle show in Hannover between ZF and Iveco will see ZF's new TraXon transmission system fitted to the Iveco Stralis and Trakker European models from October 2014.

“With TraXon from ZF we feel that our driveline is ready to meet the challenges that we will face in the upcoming years on the heavy commercial vehicle market,” Alfredo Altavilla, CEO of Iveco S.p.A, said. “Crucial for our decision in favour of TraXon was its huge flexibility and modularity. It allows further developments in the overall system and ideally suits the needs of the wide range of Iveco vehicle applications.”

The TraXon will replace the ZF-AS Tronic transmission, which is currently available for the vehicles, with the move in line with Iveco's push towards greater efficiency, productivity and adaptability.

“We are delighted to continue the excellent cooperation of the past decades with our customer Iveco, now also with TraXon, the new commercial vehicle transmission,” Rolf Lutz, member of the Board of Management of ZF Friedrichshafen AG, said.

The basic TraXon transmission provides for enhanced torque transfer, a superior power-to-weight ratio, higher gear speeds, and improved noise characteristics.

For different applications, the TraXon can be driven by a dry clutch, a hybrid module, dual clutch module or a torque converter clutch.

One of the innovations TraXon brings to the market is the revolutionary PreVision shifting strategy, which utilises GPS topographical location data to improve fuel economy and performance, by anticipating gear change points.

Subsequent to the integration into the European Iveco product line up, the TraXon will be gradually introduced worldwide including Australia.

ZF Services Australia supports the full range of ZF transmissions for commercial vehicles in the Australian market.
