West Australian to take on world driving challenge

Perth-based truck driver Murray Henderson will represent Australia in the global Drive Me challenge final in Germany on 4 October. Murray won the national final of the second TNT Express Drive Me challenge, heading off four other challengers from across Australia in Sydney in late August.

It is the second time a Perth-based driver has won the event.

The Drive Me challenge tests Pick Up and Delivery (PUD) drivers on their driving accuracy and customer service, with an emphasis on testing for safe and fuel-efficient driving. 1915 drivers across Australia participated in the challenge this year, joining 15,000 drivers globally.

TNT Express Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands managing director Bob Black said the Drive Me challenge reinforced TNT Express’ core business values and its ‘sure we can’ attitude. “The Drive Me challenge showcases the abilities of TNT Express drivers by assessing fuel efficiency, safe driving and customer service skills,” he said.

“Encouraging the right driver behaviour is one of the many features of TNT Express’ culture, which is to significantly reduce our carbon footprint. Initiatives like this can have a real influence in driver behaviour, greatly reducing road traffic accidents and continually driving to provide an excellent customer experience,” he said.

Murray himself is still in complete shock after the announcement, and cannot believe he is on his way to Germany in October. “I’m extremely grateful for this opportunity. I have had so many calls of congratulations from friends and my family.”
