The Victorian Transport Association (VTA) has released a provisional program for State Conference 2026.

This year’s conference will bring together leaders from government, industry and regulatory bodies to explore the theme ‘Freight Never Stops’, reflecting the fast‑moving challenges and opportunities shaping freight and logistics today.

VTA CEO, Peter Anderson, said the 2026 program reflects the dynamic policy, infrastructure and technological environment influencing every part of the freight sector.

“Our industry continues to evolve rapidly, and the 2026 State Conference captures the issues that matter most to freight operators, supply chain partners and policymakers,” he said.

“From cyber security to infrastructure delivery, workforce pressures to regulatory change, we have assembled a program that delivers insight, relevance and action.”

The VTA State Conference will open on Sunday 22 March with a welcome dinner and reception, featuring keynote remarks from senators Glenn Sterle and Bridget McKenzie.

The ‘Setting the Scene’ session on the first day will bring together leading voices, including Anderson, Victorian Minister for Ports and Freight, Melissa Horne, Freight Cyber, JANA and the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) for a comprehensive industry outlook.

Further program sessions will explore:

  • Intermodal freight developments with contributions from Freight Victoria, Port of Melbourne, Intermodal Terminal Company and ARTC
  • Major infrastructure update including briefings from the Victorian Infrastructure Delivery Authority, Transurban on the West Gate Tunnel Project, the North East Link Project team and Austroads
  • Regulatory and compliance updates presented by the NHVR, Freight Victoria, Impact HQ and Big Wheels Alignment
  • Workforce and industrial relations challenges including sham contracting and labour market pressures, featuring speakers from the Transport Workers Union, VTA, Queensland Trucking Association and other key organisations
  • Cybersecurity and equipment innovation with insights from the Australian Signals Directorate, Freight Cyber, MTData, Volvo Group and Daimler Truck Australia Pacific.

Anderson said the program was intentionally broad to ensure that every corner of the industry is represented.

“Victorian freight and logistics businesses continue to show resilience, innovation and leadership,” he said.

“Our program reflects the realities operators face on the ground, while also looking ahead to the opportunities that emerging technologies, better regulation and smarter infrastructure can unlock.

“The State Conference remains one of the most important gatherings for our sector, and we look forward to welcoming delegates back to Silverwater Resort for three days of collaboration and insight.”
