Volvo unveils new construction features

Volvo Trucks has released five new features targeted at the construction segment, including Dynamic Steering and increased loads for dual front axles, five axle trucks, rear air suspension and EBS for drum brakes.

“We want to be the leading brand in the construction segment just as we are in long haul. These new features in combination with our completely updated product range clearly sets a new standard for what a construction truck can deliver,” said Ricard Fritz, Vice President, Volvo Trucks Brand.

Volvo Dynamic Steering is now available on trucks with dual front axles, lowering turning resistance at low speeds and returning the steering wheel automatically to the straight-ahead position after full lock.

Dual front axles increase the maximum technical capacity from 18 to 20 tonnes and the load bed on a four-axle truck with a gross weight of 32 tonnes is also longer.

Volvo Trucks is also launching factory-built 5-axle combinations. The two front axles permit up to 20 tonnes maximum load and the three rear axles can handle up to 36 tonnes.

According to Volvo, the new ability to combine an air-suspended rear axle with a driven front axle or all-wheel drive offers improved comfort, as well as adjustment to suit the weight of the load and ground clearance of at least 300mm.

Volvo's Electronic Brake System (EBS) are now available for drum brakes, giving access to a range of intelligent functions such as Hill Start Aid and Brake Blending, which is the integration of engine braking and retarder function.

The five new features are in addition to the previously introduced heavy-duty bumper for the Volvo FH series and the industry-first Automatic Traction Control function for the Volvo FMX.

“By adding new, innovative features we give our customers access to a broader range of options and unique ways to improve productivity,” said Fritz.
