A group of Volvo truck enthusiasts and Volvo Group Australia employees have joined to create the Australian Volvo Truck Heritage Group (AVTHG) – a web based interest group whose main aim is to preserve the colourful and interesting history of one of Australia’s longest serving truck manufacturers, and act as a catalyst for classic Volvo truck owners and enthusiasts to share their passion for this now major global brand.
The formation of the AVTHG has also coincided with the 40th anniversary of the formation of Volvo Trucks Australia.
Membership to AVTHG is free to all who wish to contribute or be a part of capturing and sharing the company’s history.
This site features:
• Australian History pages – articles and photos on Volvo’s history in Australia;
• Specifications and reference material on the now legendary models such as the F86, G88 and N series;
• A photo gallery for qualified (pre 1990) Volvo trucks;
• Volvo Truck Corporation history (corporate slideshow);
• A link to the Volvo Museum in Gothenburg, Sweden;
• A link to the Swedish based Volvo Truck Vintage Club; and
• An email address for all membership and history enquiries or contributions.
This group of likeminded devotees have worked in co-operation with the Hunter Valley Classic Commercial Vehicle Club (HVCCVC) to create an ever-expanding reference website.
This website is the creative work of Col Pike of Thistle Cottage Software.
Andrew Blacklock, events organiser for the HVCCVC club said, “We are excited to add another dimension to our club’s activity by supporting this new site. Clearly we like to support any initiative that preserves historical commercial vehicles. Volvo is especially significant as its foundations are here in NSW.”
