Reports in the global financial press are suggesting Volkswagen is considering buying into Japanese truck manufacturer Isuzu. After initially denying any talks had taken place, the parties involved did later admit to some discussions. No more details have come to light since the initial reports suggested any deal would be done through MAN, which is 30% owned by Volkswagen.
Currently, Toyota has a stake in Isuzu and some analysts have suggested VW would be interested in buying this holding. Volkswagen owns Scania as well as MAN and has its own truck manufacturing capability in South America. Doing a deal with Isuzu would give the massive German carmaker an interest in global truck manufacturing in every continent apart from North America.
