A new industry award has been announced by Transport Women Australia Limited (TWAL).
The ‘Young Gunnette’ Award, sponsored by longtime partner Cummins Inc, will be offered to young women under the age of 30.
The TWAL views the award as another avenue to promoting, motivating, and encouraging young females who are making strides early in their careers.
Award Entrants must be individuals who can display that they are contributing to the industry over and above paid employment/business.
This can also include an individual who has demonstrated leadership on a matter relating to the industry and/or who has been involved in a significant initiative that has brought about positive change or added value to the industry and/or has inspiring qualities as an advocate of the industry.
The Award was announced at the 2024 apprentice intake at Cummins Scoresby on 5 February.
Both Cummins and TWAL said they were delighted that at this largest intake of apprentices, 33 per cent of the apprentices were females.
“TWAL is delighted to offer this award as recognition of the amazing young women that we have joining our industry today and encourage others to see that trucking industry is a great career choice,” the group said in a statement.
“We have some amazing young women within our industry and among our TWAL members and this is a chance to recognise one of them.”
