Trucking industry to go to the polls in 2013

The Australian Trucking Association (ATA) has announced that owner drivers and the operators of small trucking fleets will go to the polls in early 2013 to elect two representatives on the General Council of the ATA.

According to David Simon, Chairman of the ATA, the 2013 election will be a crucial opportunity for owner drivers and small fleet operators to have their say about the future of the trucking industry.

“The ATA Council sets our strategic policy direction. It deals with the issues that will determine the industry’s long term future, including safety, professionalism and operator viability,” Simon said. “To register to vote in the election, you must own, be purchasing or leasing 1-5 trucks over 4.5 tonnes and be on the Commonwealth Electoral Roll. You can vote for both representatives or just one.”

Nominations and voter registration will open on 14 January 2013 and close on 11 February 2013.

“For the first time in an ATA election, you’ll be able to register to vote online through the ATA website. As a result, participating in this election will be easier than ever before. To nominate for one of the positions, you must be a member of an ATA member organisation and must be registered to vote in the election.”
