One much anticipated feature of the National Road Transport Hall of Fame Reunion celebration is the annual induction of transport people to the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame, and this year 100 trucking heroes were recognised.
Sponsored by petroleum giant Shell, the National Road Transport Hall of Fame Reunion held each year is a truly major event on the trucking calendar, attracting hundreds of visitors from around the country, most of who make the annual pilgrimage to Alice Springs each year to join celebrations.
This year was again extremely well attended, with a noticeably large contingent from Western Australia that included a number of well-known trucking figures.
It's an emotional time for many and true recognisance of hard work in one the most challenging industries that continues to make a major contribution to this country and its economy. Trucking requires a special breed of people, and main sponsor Shell strives to promote the importance of what those hard working individuals have achieved.
According to Shell National Transport Marketing Manager, Gavin Corcoran, the actions of those in the road transport industry lead to a better lifestyle for all Australians, and the 'Shell Rimula Wall of Fame' is a fitting tribute to their hard work and dedication.
At the ceremony, Ray Scott from Mt Gambier was named an industry icon due to his history in the road transport industry and long service on road train work into the Northern Territory.
Following inductions, the 2013 Shell Rimula Wall of Fame was unveiled in a new shed constructed at the Road Transport Hall of Fame, recognising the work of those who have contributed much to the industry.
