Truck drivers and farmers make record donation

In a moving act of generosity, Western Australian truckies and farmers joined forces to help drought stricken livestock farmers in Bourke, NSW.

According to the ABC, 16 trucks loaded with hay left Western Australia in April to help farmers in News South Wales as part of the ‘hay from WA’ initiative.

The ABC reported that the trucks were carrying roughly 900 bales of fodder and met with another 35 vehicles along the way. All up, 52 trucks and 78 trailer loads of hay reached far western NSW to help to drought affected livestock producers.

The donation is said to be one of the largest fodder donations in Australia's history.

Event organiser Sam Starcevich told the ABC the support from people along the way had inspired him throughout the journey. “The support we've received has been fantastic.”

Starcevich now hopes the 920 bales of hay will be able to provide farmers in NSW with some much needed support for livestock and alleviate pressure. “Hopefully we can provide them with some much needed feed for their livestock,” she said. “If we can ease some pressure from farmers, well that will just be wonderful.”
