Ellen Voie – President, CEO and Founder of Women in Trucking USA – recently travelled to Australia to speak at the Transport Women Australia (TWA) Conference in Melbourne on 22 and 23 June.
Titled “Moving with the Times”, the National Conference attracted delegates from around the country to listen to a range of regarded keynote speakers, such as Richard Parkes from Kea Petroleum in New Zealand. Richard joined Cindy Dunham from Rio Tinto speaking about the origins of petroleum, the importance of transport to mining and the similarities between the two industries.
“Another critical session was a panel with representatives from the Maritime, Bus, Trucking and Rail Industries, discussing the shortages of eligible workers for all of these sectors,” says Chair Pam McMillan. Topics such as safety at work, how to avoid Insolvency as well as health and the environment were included in the program as well.
“The importance of events like the National Conference should not be understated,” Pam concluded. “The fact that delegates came from every state in Australia highlights the relevance of the topics we presented.”
