Not only is it time to farewell any negative terminology (risk) that may be holding us back from achieving personal and business success, even if only subconsciously; but it’s also time to change our thinking in general.
A while ago, Brendan talked about how Richard Umbers, who was appointed to the position of Myer CEO in March, had to embrace a “logistics mindset” to the transformation challenge facing the organisation if he was to create an agile and streamlined retail organisation. Ever since, the term stuck with us.
At the core of it is the understanding that commercial road transport is only part of a much more complex challenge facing us all. Logistics, according to Brendan, is the big picture, the sum of all parts, where success stories are written and markets successfully disrupted.
“Logistics is where real change happens; the kind of revolutionary change that makes contingency planning for things like new Governments, legislation or deteriorating economic indicators suddenly irrelevant,” he says.
“Logistics is a breeding ground for the sort of change that can render an industry or businesses redundant, with little or no warning. The logistics mindset can create billionaires from nowhere and throw multi-generational family businesses on the scrapheap as it seeks to embrace technology to provide more efficient movement solutions.”
What’s interesting about Brendan’s somewhat radical explanation is, in fact, that it is so radical.
“If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses,” Henry Ford once said before starting to mass-produce affordable autombiles. So, maybe it is time to look at transport from a different perspective and see what technology can do for us to maintain a competitive edge.
COPE Sensitive Freight is a company that is boldly forging down that new path: It doesn’t just specialise in transporting sensitive freight, but in providing end-to-end solutions that include the installation of highly sophisticated equipment such as MRI machines or ATMs – all satellite tracked and performance evaluated for maximum transparency.
It’s an exciting new world out there with new technology that will change the way we work, drive and communicate. Now is the time to prepare for it and adjust our mindset to ensure Australian road transport is not left behind.
