The VTA calendar

The first half of 2011 has already come and gone, and a lot has happened. We are working on several key issues on behalf of members and the industry, including the planning for Freight Week 2011 being held from 5-9 September at the Melbourne Tennis Centre.

VTA State Conference 2011
The VTA State Conference was held on 23rd and 24th May in Creswick, Victoria. It was well attended with over 160 delegates. We received some great feedback on the conference, both for networking opportunities and the content of the presentations. Once again, the program was very full and we worked hard to provide as much information as possible into the timeframe.

Road Transport and Logistics Safety Forums
As a part of Freight 2011, the VTA, VicRoads and the Victorian Road Freight Advisory Council are running five transport forums across Victoria in July and August.
The forums are free and open to everyone in the industry.

VicRoads, WorkSafe and industry experts will share current information and trends to help make transport companies safer and more productive. Information will cover road safety reforms, drugs and alcohol in the workplace, local safety reforms, latest developments in safer vehicles and a WorkSafe update.
The forum details are:
• Mildura – 30 June 2011
• Bendigo – 14 July 2011
• Bairnsdale – 28 July 2011
• Warrnambool – 18 August 2011
• Melbourne – 25 August 2011

You must register to secure your place. To register either visit www.freightweek.com.au or call the VTA on 03 9646 8590.

22nd Annual Freight Industry Awards
Nominations are now open for the 22nd Annual Australian Freight Industry Awards. These unique awards are designed to reward excellence and to raise the standards and public perception of the Australian Freight and Logistics Industry.

The 22nd Annual Australian Freight Industry Awards are being held on Saturday 3rd September 2011. Award nominations will close on Monday 22nd August. The Awards night will be held at the Crown Palladium Ballroom, a spectacular new venue for this prestigious event which includes superb wines, a three course menu, great music, entertainment and a celebration of our Industry.

I strongly encourage companies to nominate for the Awards. For over 22 years, companies and individuals who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to make their work more innovative, efficient and safe have been publicly recognised and honoured at the Australian Freight Industry Awards. Entering the Awards is a powerful demonstration that shows your organisation values its employees and their contributions.

The Australian Freight Industry Awards in 2011 will include the following six categories:
1. Australian Best Practice Safety Award
2. Australian Freight Innovation/Technology Award
3. Australian Freight and Logistics Award
4. Australian Freight Environmental Award
5. Australian Freight Industry Promotion & Careers Award
6. Australian Freight and Logistics Personality of the Year
