Schenker Australia to open new Brisbane facility

DB Schenker has announced that its new 31,400 square metre distribution centre is scheduled to be operational by the first week of July following an investment of $30 million.

The Schenker facility is the first major tenant at the new $350 million Redbank Motorway Estate, which is a 62-hectare industrial development close to Brisbane.

“The new facility has enabled us to commit to a program offering up to 40 traineeships,” said Kip Sandercock, Queensland Operations Manager for DB Schenker.

“Those who complete the program can expect to gain a Certificate III in Warehouse Operations and other valuable work skills. The initiative has the full support from DB Schenker in Australia CEO Mr Ron Koehler and its Directors.”

Meanwhile, Ipswich Mayor, Paul Pisasale was delighted with the announcement. “This is the most significant thing, not just for Ipswich but for Australia. It’s a worldwide company who will be putting 40 young people straight into traineeships,” he said.

“You don’t get a better result than that. Youth unemployment is a problem everywhere in the country and we’re working to get it down. Governments and companies should be looking at ways to do what the company is doing.”

The development of the estate has been predicted to create 2,300 jobs for the local Ipswich community and the Schenker facility will initially have 120 positions.
