Scania technicians to compete in regional final

Australia will again compete in the regional final of the Scania 'Top Team Technicians' competition to be held in Bangkok, Thailand. The Oceania/ Asia event is the first of five regional finals to be held around the world.

The first and second placed teams at this weekend’s regional final will qualify for the world finals in Södertälje, Sweden in November. In 2011, the Australian team went on to win the overall world-wide competition, but only one member of that team, Graham Andrews, is in the 2013 Australian contingent.

Calling themselves the “Southern Stars” the Aussie team comprises Phil Sage, Graham Andrews, Michael Farrell, Benn Jeffery and Logan Hoser, all of whom have many years of Scania experience behind them. Team leader Phil Sage competed in the regional finals of Top Team in 2007, while Benn Jeffery has worked for Scania for 11 years, starting as an apprentice. Michael Farrell is a recent arrival from Ireland where he worked for many years on Scanias, while Logan Hoser is a very experienced parts supervisor.

The other teams in the regional final are from Singapore, Indonesia,  Malaysia, New Zealand, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea and Thailand.

“We have been working hard on refreshing our knowledge in the past few weeks,” Sage says. “We have been reading through the workshop manuals, revising previous Top Team scenarios and we have had our workshop colleagues set us tests on vehicles where we had to diagnose faults and perform rectifications against the clock.”
