Scania introduces the 6×2

The benefits of using a 6×2 drive configuration is being demonstrated by Scania as a way of reducing tare weight and fuel consumption. The company has started with the introduction of a G440 6×2 sleeper cab prime mover with a two pedal Opticruise transmission.

The company said it expects to offer the 6×2 options across its P, G and R Series trucks in the future. The option is said to deliver a cost saving in terms of purchase price, maintenance, fuel and payload.

“The 6×2 drivetrain will not only be of interest to single trailer operators but also some high volume B-double operators who are looking to optimise their operating costs and will find the 6×2 attractive,” said Managing Director of Scania, Roger McCarthy. “This axle configuration is ideally suited to major retailers and other logistics operators who are primarily focused on metropolitan and intra and interstate deliveries. We already offer an 8×2 rigid with single or twin axles to these customers.”
