Scania’s Interim Report for the January-June 2011 period has shown that total deliveries for the first half of the year have increased by 42 per cent to 40,300 vehicles when compared to the same period last year. This has resulted in an 18 per cent increase in net sales to SEK 43,665m. Order bookings have increased by 14 per cent to 42,103. During the second quarter, vehicle deliveries increased by 30 per cent to 21,235 vehicles and net sales rose by 12 per cent to SEK 22,973m.
In the first half of this year Scania also increased the number of service points in the European market as well as in other markets.
Scania recorded 16,525 deliveries in Europe, 3242 in Eurasia, 8653 in America and 6673 in Asia for the period. While Europe, Eurasia and Asia saw strong growth; America and Oceania had a drop in deliveries compared to 2010. Truck deliveries, however, experienced growth in all markets. The largest increase was in Europe which rose 66 per cent from 9964 in the first half of 2010, to 16,525 for 2011. The increased demand in Europe is mainly in the north. Southern parts of Europe are also showing signs of recovery but at a slower pace.
In the second half of 2011, Scania will begin expanding its production capacity from 100,000 vehicles to 120,000 vehicles. This will occur at existing production facilities, predominantly in Sweden.
