The South Australian Road Transport Association (SARTA) has called on the Government to apply a 60km/h limit at the Glen Osmond Intersection in Adelaide for all heavy vehicles of 4.5 tonnes or more.
“This measure should overcome any lack of awareness of drivers of the smaller trucks about the absolute need to approach the steep descent at an appropriately low speed and in low gear,” said SARTA Executive Director, Steve Shearer – pointing out the old rule only affected larger trucks with five or more axles.
“We know that some operators of smaller trucks may not like this, but the vast majority already come down at 60 or less and the delay this causes is minuscule and of no consequence and is far outweighed by the safety benefits for all road users, including the truck drivers.”
