Mercedes-Benz has revealed that all new Actros prime movers will come with Mercedes-Benz award-winning Active Brake Assist 2 as standard, making the Actros safer than ever.
The company used the recent Brisbane Truck Show to display two special edition Actros models – the Actros 2660 with MegaSpace cab, and an Actros 2648 with a low roof sleeper.
Whilst the original Active Brake Assist safety system incorporated emergency braking when there was a threat of a head-to-tail collision with a slowing vehicle in front, Assist 2 employs the brakes if stationary obstacles are detected.
With a list of other Mercedes-Benz safety features including Telligent Proximity Control, Telligent Lane Assist, SRS driver’s airbag and seatbelt pretensioner, Actros was named “2009 International Truck Of The Year”.
The new Actros is the first truck to incorporate the PowerShift2 automatic transmission system where the engines deliver from 300 to 600 hp, providing fast gear changes, optimised shifting and reduction in wear and tear.
In addition to the high performance, Actros has six cab options, and uses state-of-the-art technology and world’s best design to simplify the job of drivers and ensure utmost comfort.
The MegaSpace cab offers a spacious living and working space to make the long journey an enjoyment. The cabin consists of a comfort suspension seat, a manually controlled air conditioning system; and in the lower sleeping area, a new luxury bed highlighting a slatted frame with elastic support and adjustable headboard, with an optional upper luxury bed.
Apart from the luxurious working environment, Actros has integrated the Telligent engine management system that constantly monitors all relevant engine data including engine speed, load and temperature to ensure high engine output, low fuel consumption and low emission combustion. The system will also alert the driver if there in the unlikely event of a malfunction.
