Works will be carried out between the Fisher Park Truck Stop at Tregony and South Branch Road in Maryvale.

Importantly for freight operators, the Fisher Park Rest Areas will be closed for the duration of the works with road
users advised to use the Gladfield Rest Area which is approximately 16 kilometres to the west.
“This design and construction project will improve safety and reduce the frequency and severity of crashes on this section of the Cunningham Highway,” says TMR Southern Queensland Regional Director Bill Lansbury.
“Improvements include road widening, increasing the shoulder width, pavement strengthening and repair, removing roadside hazards, installing guardrails, audio tactile line marking and wide centre line marking.
“We would like to thank members of the community who provided their feedback in 2023 during detailed design which has helped inform the design for the safety improvements on this section of the highway.”
Improvements, including road widening, pavement strengthening and repair, and installing guardrails to a four-kilometre section of the highway, are designed to reduce the risk of fatal and serious injury crashes.
Works along the four-kilometre section of the highway are scheduled to commence in late August 2025 and are expected to be completed mid-2026, weather and construction conditions permitting.
