Anyone involved in an automotive workshop in Queensland is being urged by Auto Skills Australia (ASA) to fill in the Automotive Skills Priority Survey for Queensland. The survey is needed to accumulate evidence to present to the Ministerial Industry Commission in the state. The Commission is an independent body which provides advice to the Queensland Minister for Education, Training and Employment on critical training, skills and workforce issues affecting small, medium and large enterprises in Queensland.
Anyone completing the survey will be placed in a draw to win one of two substantial prizes awarded by ASA. The first prize is $500 towards a flight of your choice, and the second prize is $400 towards a mobile phone of your choice. The closing date for the survey has now been extended to November 7. Prize winners will be notified on November 10.
The information gleaned from the survey will inform the way automotive training qualifications will be funded by Queensland Government. This is said, by the ASA, to be a decision which may impact on many businesses.

The Commission is part of the Queensland Government’s five year action plan for reform of the vocational education and training sector, ‘Great skills, Real opportunities’. The aim is to build a renewed partnership between industry and government to focus investment in training on the skills needed by employers.
Funding for vocational training is being cut and reorganised across the country. Filling in the survey gives workshops an opportunity to stem the flow of funds away from badly needed funding assistance to improve training in automotive workshops.
