A plan to invest $96 million to expand the Warrego Highway has been announced by the Queensland Government. The four-lane highway will be extended by 6km from Nugent’s Pinch Road, to the west of Toowoomba, to Leeson Road, east of Gowrie Mountain.
The Warrego Highway through Toowoomba is a major freight route connecting South East Queensland with western Queensland, including the fast-growing Surat Basin coalfields.
Work on the new road is expected to start in early 2013. The improvement has been federally funded and is set to improve safety and efficiency on a notorious bottleneck serving over 12,000 vehicles daily.
