Qube Energy has officially started operations on Barrow Island, Western Australia, supporting Chevron’s WA Oil Decommissioning project.
Chevron’s decommissioning project commenced earlier this year, and has target the shut-down of its onshore and offshore infrastructure at the company-operated Thevenard oil facility.
“Chevron is committed to responsible asset retirement, and we take a proactive and planned approach to the decommissioning of infrastructure and equipment that is no longer in use,” the company said.
“With decade of global experience, we have the right people and expert knowledge needed to carry out decommissioning safely and manage environmental risks.”
Qube Energy has joined this effort, and its decommissioning operations involve plugging and abandoning hundreds of wells, removing infrastructure, and rehabilitating the Island’s Class A nature reserve.
Qube is delivering what it called end-to-end logistics across Barrow Island and the state’s Pilbara region, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient support for one of Australia’s largest decommissioning efforts.
Qube Energy has called the project a proud moment and a big step forward for sustainable energy transition in WA.
