QLD road interchange upgrade to begin

The Federal Government has announced that the multi-million dollar upgrade to the Bruce Highway north of Brisbane will come with a new overpass to improve travel conditions for trucks.

“The package of works will build a new, higher (6.5 metre) overpass over the highway, lengthen and straighten the on and off-ramps, improve the intersections with local roads and install pedestrian and cycling facilities,” said Federal Infrastructure and Transport Minister Anthony Albanese.

“The interchange is becoming increasingly congested and hazardous as the number of vehicles using it rises to more than 50,000 a day. Plus at 4.5 metres, the clearance beneath the overpass is too low, meaning that bigger trucks are currently required to take a detour.”

According to Albanese, the upgrade of the Pumicestone Road interchange, all part of the targeted improvements being made to the Bruce Highway between Caboolture and Caloundra, will begin in the second half of 2013 and take approximately 18 months to complete.
