Planning contract awarded for Tenterfield bypass

The Tenterfield Heavy Vehicle Bypass in New South Wales is moving ahead with the Australian and state governments announcing the successful tenderer to carry out planning work.

Arcadis Australia Pacific has been awarded the planning contract for the 4.5km bypass, which includes a review of environmental factors and the bypass design.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Infrastructure and Transport and Federal Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce, said the Australian Government provided $10 million for the planning work in the 2017–18 Federal Budget toward the project.

“The bypass is going to start north of the Tenterfield Creek Bridge, run west of the railway corridor and then re-join the existing highway near Cowper Street, supporting both local industry and interstate drivers,” Joyce said.

Planning work is expected to take around three years to complete and the community will be kept informed as the proposal progresses.
