Planning begins on PortLink project

The PortLink Steering Committee met in Kalgoorlie this week to go over plans for the project, which aims to create transport links throughout Western Australia's mining regions.

The PortLink project would see Kalgoorlie become the hub of a transport network, linking the Pilbara, mid-west and Yilgarn, to Perth and the eastern states.

The state and federal governments have contributed a combined $7 million to help get the project off the ground.

The head of the committee, the Minister for Regional Development, says the group is looking into the market demand, economic benefit, design and the financial viability of the project.
