The National Transport Commission (NTC) has released a Reform Implementation Monitoring Report stating that all seven of the national reforms agreed between 1 July 2013 and 1 July 2014 have been fully or partly implemented.
According to the NTC, the report monitors the implementation of nationally agreed transport reforms by the Commonwealth, states and territories in order to ensure that benefits start flowing as soon as possible.
“This report highlights where further attention is needed to ensure Australians get the full benefits of national reform,” said NTC Acting CEO, Michelle Hendy.
“The NTC works hard to find practical improvements to Australia’s transport networks. We also work with governments to help them implement these reforms as quickly as possible.
“Our objective is to help to save lives and boost productivity across Australia’s transport sector.”
The seven national reforms detailed in the report are Heavy Vehicle Regulatory Reform, Heavy vehicle charges, Rail Safety Regulation and Investigation Reform, National Ports Strategy, Australian Road Rules, Australian Vehicle Standards Rules and the Australian Dangerous Goods Code.
“Through this report we can demonstrate to ministers, governments, industry and the Australian public that we are serious about achieving agreed transport reform outcomes. The report also allows us to identify and help manage any obstacles along the way,” said Hendy.
