A major maintenance project of New South Wales’ historic St Albans Bridge over the Macdonald River is now underway. The upgrade is aimed at improving the bridge’s strength and to reduce future maintenance costs.
“St Albans Bridge was built in 1902 and is an early example of a DeBurgh timber truss road bridge,” said Ray Williams, member for Hawkesbury.
“The NSW Government has contributed $1.5 million towards the upgrade, which includes major repairs to the northern end of the bridge, extending the laminated timber deck and installing steel supports.”
The project is expected to be completed by mid 2014.
