Norman Carriers has taken delivery of three Mercedes-Benz Actros prime movers from Daimler Trucks.
The trucks have joined the Victoria-based freight operator’s fleet as part of a larger effort to expand its interstate presence, specifically in New South Wales.
Deployed in metropolitan Sydney and other key industrial corridors within the state – Wetherill Park, Eastern Creek, Port Botany and the M5/M7 motorway network – the prime movers have been primarily used in port logistics and general freight.
The three Mercedes-Benz Actros units run Performance-Based Standards-rated A-Double combinations, carrying skel trailers and sideloader trailers, while occasionally pulling flat top and tautliner trailers for bulk consignment deliveries and pickups.
Norman Carriers Safety and Compliance Manager, Richard Wyles, emphasised the role the new prime movers are playing in bolstering the company’s operational footprint.
“These vehicles represent the next stage of our fleet investment program as we strengthen our presence across New South Wales and continue building toward future national expansion,” he told Prime Mover.
“They are symbols of our continued commitment to safety, innovation and operational excellence as a third-generation family business.
“Introducing these trucks, with bold branding and a modern on-road aesthetic, reinforces our company identity and increases the visibility of the Norman Carriers brand throughout the state.”
Norman Carriers’ new Mercedes-Benz Actros units are powered by the Mercedes-Benz OM471 13-litre Euro 6 engine, rated at 530 horsepower. The prime movers are noted for a RPM torque which enables the flexibility, performance and fuel efficiency required for both urban and regional freight tasks.
The prime movers have also been customised to guarantee safety and compliance in Norman Carriers’ operations. The trucks are equipped with MTData telematics tools which support the operator’s National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme, maintenance and Chain of Responsibility requirements.
This is bolstered by the Mercedes-Benz Safety Assist suite, which includes proximity control, lane keeping and braking guidance. Additionally, AirWeigh onboard scales are also equipped to assist with pre-departure mass compliance in container and general freight operations.
The units also feature a driver comfort package with premium seating, advanced climate control, and ergonomic cabin layout. These qualities have made the prime movers a hit among Norman Carriers’ drivers.
“Each unit features specifications tailored to Norman Carriers safety, compliance, and operational needs,” Wyles said.
“And driver feedback has been outstanding. Our team members consistently report exceptional visibility and safety technology, notable fuel efficiency gains, and reduced fatigue on extended shifts in particular.
“These units have quickly become a preferred choice within our fleet.”
Following the successful deployment of the Mercedes-Benz Actros prime movers in New South Wales just two weeks ago, Wyles and the Norman Carriers team have been particularly impressed with Daimler Trucks’ role in making the truck deliveries timely.
“The Daimler Trucks team has taken the time to understand our operational needs, our growth strategy, and our commitment to safety and compliance,” Wyles said.
“Their ongoing support, from build specification through to aftersales service, has made them a trusted partner as we expand our NSW operations and prepare for future service growth.
“We look forward to fostering this partnership as Norman Carriers continues to expand its national footprint.”
