NHVR welcomes new SA Transport Minister

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) has welcomed the appointment of Corey Wingard as South Australian Infrastructure and Transport Minister.

NHVR Chair, Duncan Gay, said the NHVR continued to have a close working relationship with South Australian transport and police agencies and would continue to work closely together in the years ahead.

“I congratulate Corey on behalf of the NHVR staff and board, and look forward to working with him to deliver an ongoing agenda to reform heavy vehicle safety and productivity,” said Gay.

“This is a particularly challenging time for the freight industry and it is vitally important all agencies are working closely with industry to ensure safety,” he said.

The NHVR has a broad workforce in South Australia, including 22 Safety and Compliance Officers based in Adelaide and four regional locations.

The NHVR oversees safety and productivity laws which regulate more than 165,000 businesses across Australia’s heavy vehicle industry and supply chain.

Gay also thanked former Minister Stephan Knoll for his leadership which has delivered positive outcomes for South Australia’s heavy vehicle industry and all road users.

“I would like to thank Stephan and his team for their support over the past two years, including during the bushfire response earlier this year and during the current changes brought about by the coronavirus response,” he said.

In other news, heavy vehicle operators are key to slowing the COVID-19 spread.
