Work will start in September to improve safety for all road users on the Newell Highway at Gillenbah, New South Wales and is expected to be completed by March 2014.
“The NSW and Australian governments have provided $3.3 million to improve safety for heavy vehicle operators, motorists and pedestrians along this section of the Newell Highway,” Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) announced.
“Upgrade work will be carried out to improve safety at existing rest facilities and an 800 metre section of the highway, about two kilometres south of Narrandera.
“This section of highway is used by thousands of motorists, tourists and heavy vehicles every year as an informal place to stop. Once the upgrade is completed the existing 70km/h speed limit will be reduced to 60km/h.”
