Newcastle Road Transport Awareness Day this Sunday

The 19th annual Newcastle Transport Awareness Day will be held on Sunday, 4 November at the Newcastle Foreshore, New South Wales.

According to Newcastle and Hunter Region Road Transport Awareness Group (NHRRTA) Chairman Tony McGrath, the event is an opportunity for members of the general public to have a chat with a truck driver.

“I invite everyone to come along, say ‘G’day’ to a truck driver and ask any questions they might have about sharing the road with our heavy vehicles,” McGrath said.

“The industry has changed significantly in the 19 years this day has been running – trucks are bigger, safer and people are more aware of their responsibilities. This is a great opportunity for the general public to find out more about how we work and address any misconceptions they may have about the industry.

“Families are welcome, with kids’ rides, the morning truck parade, truck judging and entertainment to keep everyone happy. This year we will also be running a Golden Oldies tent, where people with a long association with the industry can come along, swap stories and see some trucking memorabilia.”

Organised by the NHRRTA, the day aims to promoting awareness of the road transport industry and creating greater understanding of its place and purpose in the community. The event includes a truck parade, trade exhibits, and entertainment proceeds raised from the event is donated to the Hunter Rescue Helicopter Service.
