In the USA, Maxwell Technologies has introduced a 12V ultracapacitor module to complement truck batteries. The technology is aimed at ensuring engine starting in any conditions independent of the condition of the truck batteries.
It is being sold on the US market as an option to be fitted to new trucks or retrofitted to older vehicles. Apart from improving vehicle reliability, the system is claimed to extend battery life and can be charged fully in less than 15 minutes.
