The Federal and South Australian governments have provided $6.3 million in funding for the new Yamba rest area, which is due for completion in early 2012.
The aim of the new rest area will be to improve reduce fatigue and improve safety.
To enable final work on the rest area and weigh bridge, an old quarantine station will be knocked down. A new quarantine station will soon open to replace the current facility.
