New parking bays in NT completed

Federal Infrastructure and Transport Minister, Anthony Albanese, has announced the completion of two new parking bays along the Stuart Highway in the Northern Territory.

Located on either side of the highway in the township of Adelaide River, truck drivers will now have an extra place to rest, with the two 150-metre bays able to accommodate up to three road-trains at any one time.

“In partnership with state and territory governments, as well as the trucking industry, we have been working hard over the last five years to address the unacceptable lack of safe, modern roadside facilities along the nation's highways,” Albanese said. “Over time, this investment will help make our highways safer for everyone.

The $3 million project was fully-Federal funded and delivered by Territory-based contractors, Aldebaran Contracting and employed twenty-five people, including eight indigenous workers.
