New lubricant for heavy-duty diesel engines

Fuchs has developed a special lubricant to maintain the emission-reducing capabilities of heavy-duty diesel vehicles. Named Titan Cargo, the 15W-40 product is supposed to reduce wear during extended drain intervals.

“Original Equipment Manufacturers are continually developing new ways to reduce emissions and improve fuel economy and performance,” said Tony Swiatek, Automotive Product Manager at Fuchs Lubricants Australasia. “One of these developments to reduce emissions is the use of exhaust after treatment systems, common in today’s diesel engine fleets. Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR), Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) and Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF) are some examples of these modern developments, which put increasing demands on the lubricant.”

According to Swiatek, the lubricants used in these newer vehicles require low SAPS (Sulphated Ash, Phosphorous and Sulphur), such as Titan Cargo and others. “More and more engine fleets are requiring these lubricants, which are backwards compatible to reduce the need for buying a different product for the older diesel engines and the new. While they won’t harm the older engines, they will preserve the capabilities of newer engines to reduce emissions.”
