The Glen Cameron Group has just added two Hino 500 Series GH1728 Auto (6×2) Hino trucks to its fleet. They were purchased specifically for its Schweppes route delivery operation, where the distance between stops varies between 500 metres and six kilometres.
The new trucks have the latest Euro 5 specifications, including the Isri 6800 driver’s seat. The standard five-speed Allison Auto has been re-calibrated to six speeds to lower the rpm at 100km/h and improve fuel economy.
Both trucks are also fitted with an MTData system which relays live information about driver performance and vehicle efficiency to Camerons’ operations control room.
Managing director Glen Cameron said the entire fleet had now been fitted out with this data system to help identify excess idle times, engine and driver performance as well as tracking the speed and location of all trucks via GPS.
In addition, the trucks are also fitted with specialised 9.2-metre/14 pallet Austruck Ausliner drink distribution bodies with sliding curtains, and Anteo 2-tonne cantilever tail lifts.
Mr Cameron commented, “Our drivers have enjoyed Hino’s comfortable cab layout and smooth ride in the past. These are key factors in combating driver fatigue – a major time and cost issue.
“I enjoyed driving this truck and was impressed with the smoothness of the gear change,” he said.
