Multiquip has been part of a record single-charge electric truck delivery.
Along with partners New Energy Transport and Windrose Technology, Multiquip has completed what is being called the longest single-charge electric truck delivery ever conducted in Australia.
The 480 kilometre round-trip included a 36-tonne GCM delivery leg from Multiquip’s Picton site, 80 kilometres south of Sydney, to Beresfield, just outside Newcastle, and a return leg with an empty trailer.
The electric prime mover was able to shave 40 minutes (12 per cent) off the total trip time thanks to its ability to maintain highway speed limits going uphill, unlike diesel equivalents must reduce speed in order to keep the engine within the optimal power and torque range.
Jason Mikosic, Multiquip Director said battery electric technology is something he has been keen to explore for some time.
“The trial went exceptionally well, and we’re proud to have been part of this step toward cleaner, quieter, and more efficient logistics,” he said in an online statement.
“It’s exciting to see how electric trucks could shape the future of our business and the broader industry. Thanks to our partners for their collaboration and innovation. We’re looking forward to what’s next.”
Next year New Energy Transport aims to establish a pilot fleet of heavy electric trucks in Wilton, southwest of Sydney.
Plans are for up to 50 heavy electric prime movers initially to be housed at the Hume Highway adjacent hub, before increasing the fleet to 200 vehicles by 2031.
New Energy Technology’s first heavy electric trucking depot will be the largest of its kind in the country putting Wollondilly Shire at the very forefront of transport electrification in Australia.
NSW member for Wollondilly Judy Hannan has been a strong supporter of New Energy Transport’s plans to develop its first major heavy electric trucking depot in her electorate, just outside Picton.
“It is wonderful to see heavy road transport becoming more environmentally friendly and I am very excited to see the progress made with Multiquip in Wollondilly,” said Judy Hannan MP, Member for Wollondilly
“The testing of the trucks shows there are alternatives that are not only better for the environment but also better for the driver and the business owner.
“I can’t wait to see the next stages of the roll out and I hope that Wollondilly will be part of this revolution in the industry.”
New Energy Transport Co-CEO Daniel Bleakley described the business as a new kind of trucking company.
“By combining low-cost renewable energy, high-speed charging and electric prime movers, New Energy Transport offers zero-emission road freight at diesel-based prices” he said.
“We’re incredibly proud to be working with Multiquip to demonstrate the awesome capabilities of heavy electric trucks.”
