Western Australian transporter, MGM Bulk, has added a new Kenworth C509 to its fleet of prime movers.
The truck arrived as part of a significant Kenworth order of 20 prime movers.
Being the sixth unit of the order, an additional 14 are set to arrive on a week-by-week basis up until Christmas.
The Kenworth is a 220-tonne Tri Drive powered by a 600hp/2,050lb ft Cummins X15 engine running an Eaton 22 series 18-seed manual gearbox with Dana diffs and drivelines.
It has been dedicated to carting iron ore on Bruce Rock Engineering ultra quads in the northern Pilbara region of WA through Port Hedland.
Based on its first few runs in very demanding and hot conditions, it has been performing effortlessly.
“It’s been doing really well,” MGM Bulk Fleet Manager, Allan Thomas, told Prime Mover.
“Kenworths are all we run up there, so they have to put up with the operating conditions they’re in – and they do.”
The new C509 joins MGM Bulk’s standard truck fleet of over 200 Kenworths.
These include a series of C509s, T909s, K200s and T410s.
“We only buy Kenworths,” Thomas said.
“We’ve been working with Kenworth in collaboration over the last 10 years since 2014, and the units are growing in numbers every week.”
A standout feature of the new C509, Thomas said, is the Cummins X15 engine which overtime has shown to be of great value to the fleet.
“We’re getting great life out of the X15s,” he said.
“We’re very happy with them.”
The latest C509 will be joined by additional Kenworth prime movers next year once the current order is completed.
