Meritor opens local remanufacturing service in Derrimut

US company Meritor has established new remanufacturing processes at its Australian distribution centre in Melbourne to offer a complete resource of quality Reman equipment to the local transport sector.

Headquartered in Troy, Michigan, Meritor is a global corporation providing drivetrain mobility and braking equipment for the transport industry and the related aftermarket.

The North American brand has successfully been in the remanufacturing business since 1985, producing refurbished carriers, transmissions, steering gears and brake calipers. Based on that experience, Meritor’s Australian flagship facility in Derrimut, Victoria, has now opened the first local Reman workshop – combining distribution, packaging and remanufacturing under one roof.

“After many hours of hard work we are proud to have delivered our first locally remanufactured product in December,” says Steve Spencer, Aftermarket & Trailer Director of Meritor’s Australia & ASEAN Division. “We are now in a position to utilise Meritor’s global expertise to expand our Derrimut program and create the most complete source of Reman products available in Australia and New Zealand.

“We see remanufacturing as a major growth opportunity now and in the future by allowing unprecedented flexibility through product range, pricing and branding.”

According to Steve, the Derrimut team has been able to develop a high-quality program that proudly wears the Meritor brand name.  “Our customers can trust our fully tested Reman range to meet their ongoing operating requirements.” To support the introduction of the new Reman series to the Australian market, Meritor has a knowledgeable customer service department, a team of experienced Territory Managers and fully trained mechanics on hand.  We also offer a 24 hour order turnaround and a simple core return procedure. “These are exciting times for both Meritor and our partners as this program is environmentally friendly, promotes recycling and offers an expanded Meritor product range into the marketplace,” says Steve.

“With international distribution and a strong reputation, our customers chose Meritor products for reliability, quality and optimum performance,” he adds.

According to Steve, customers now understand that our remanufactured product provides solid value and lower maintenance costs for the end user.

“Looking forward, this program will continuously grow to meet the needs of our customers and the Australian transport industry.”
