The new Concept S is the result of studies conducted by MAN Trucks on significantly cutting fuel consumption. This truck underwent numerous design changes after the company conducted wind tunnel tests, before engineers came up with its final streamlined shape as displayed at the IAA show.
The Concept S and its specially designed trailer cuts fuel use by up to 25 percent when compared to a standard 40 tonne single trailer combination. Because of its aerodynamic shape however, the design is longer than current units with the same loading capacity and therefore longer than the current maximum length of a single trailer combination.
