Major supplier contract won by McAleese

McAleese Specialised Transport and Lifting, a division of the McAleese Group, has signed a preferred supplier agreement with major Australian mining, construction and services company, Thiess.

The scope of the agreement covers the provision for over dimensional and heavy haulage, primarily related to the transport of large mining equipment, large plant and oversize construction materials for Thiess' various projects in Australia. The services provided by the Specialised Transport & Lifting Solutions division are commonly used to transport equipment to mine sites and major infrastructure projects and to support equipment supply and maintenance activities on major capital projects.

Through its Walter Wright Cranes and National Cranes businesses, McAleese is also the preferred supplier to Thiess for related crane hire services including site and project work. The McAleese Group said it was one of a small number of industry operations in Australia which have the capability to offer customers the efficiencies that flow from integrated heavy haulage and lifting services.

Thiess announced last week that the Alpha Coal Mine in the Galilee Basin between Blackall and Emerald in Queensland is expected to be operational by 2016. When it is fully commissioned the mine will produce 32 million tonnes of thermal power coal per year for the Asian market.

The McAleese Group also includes Legend Cranes and in April 2012 the company acquired International Energy Services, which expanded the Group’s operations to include bulk haulage, liquid fuels distribution, the manufacture of specialist fluid handling equipment and the provision of associated services.
