A talented workshop foreman from Sydney has won IVECO Trucks Australia’s inaugural National Master Technician Tournament.
Justin Abood, IVECO Sydney’s Workshop Foreman, bettered 49 other technicians from IVECO’s 60-plus strong dealer network to take out the top honours, earning himself a trophy, cash prizes and the ultimate bragging rights.
Open to all IVECO technicians from up-and-coming apprentices to experienced trade-qualified professionals, the event was held over three rounds through IVECO’s online Web Academy.
It involved participants negotiating 75 challenging questions covering all aspects of servicing and maintaining the IVECO range, along with fault diagnosis.
Second and third positions were won by Jonothan Elias, a Senior Technician and Electrician from Black Truck Sales, and Nathan Wigger, IVECO Workshop Foreman at Melbourne’s Prestige Truck Centre.
IVECO Head of Network Development, Customer Experience and Training, John-Paul Falvo, said the inaugural tournament’s strong participation augured well for the event to grow in the future.
“Interest in the National Master Technician Tournament from across the network was extremely positive, leading to a strong participation rate and three very enthusiastic winners,” he said.
“The tournament provided a fantastic means by which technicians could test their knowledge against counterparts from across the country in a friendly yet competitive environment, while further honing their skills, which ultimately is a positive for IVECO owners.
“On behalf of IVECO, I extend a warm congratulations to our winners and thank all participants.”
IVECO Manager, Customer and Product Support, Jason Mobberley, who was integral in establishing and overseeing the tournament, was also buoyant about its future growth.
“Spurred by the success of the inaugural event, plans are already underway for the 2026 instalment,” he said.
“I encourage dealership service teams to again become involved next year where we hope to expand the scope of the tournament by introducing new elements and challenges.”
