With Queensland’s Ipswich City's population forecast to increase to more than 400,000 people over the next twenty years and on-going employment growth in the region, the city is forecasting a major strain on its transport system if transport infrastructure isn’t planned for.
For this reason, Ipswich City Council has commenced the development of an integrated transport plan called “iGO” to shape the city's future transport system.
iGO will set transport investment priorities to ensure that the city is well served by a sustainable and economically viable transport system.
Detailed strategies and actions will be developed to ensure the transport system has the best chance of meeting the needs of the Ipswich community over the next two decades and beyond.
The iGO will focus on the roles of the various passenger and goods transport modes in an integrated system and will include the road network, freight and transport.
iGO will focus on the period up to the year 2031, which is consistent with Queensland Government demographic information, the SEQ Regional Plan and the Integrated Transport Plan for SEQ, Connecting SEQ 2031. However, identifying and preserving corridors based on the ultimate development of the city will also be included.
