The inaugural ‘Towards Zero’ Road Safety Leadership Symposium is being held from 1 – 2 May 2014 at the RACV Club in Melbourne.
Key speakers from around the globe have come together to discuss ways to reduce the risk of road trauma through what is called ‘The Safe System’.
The Safe System is a Victorian Government initiative with focuses on investing in safe roads, safe speeds, safe vehicles and safe people. Underlying this strategy is the belief that the whole community has an important part to play in the creation and maintenance of The Safe System.
Local speakers at the symposium include the Honourable Terry Mulder MP, who is the Minister for Public Transport and Minister for Roads, and the Honourable Kim Wells, MP, Minister for Police and Emergency Services.
International guest Professor Fred Wegman, the current Professor of Traffic Safety at the Delft University of Technology Netherlands, will also address the group.
Virginia Trioli, an Anchor for ABC News Breakfast, will facilitate the panel.
The Victorian Road Safety Partnership, a collaboration of VicRoads, Transport Accident Commission, Victoria Police and the Department of Justice, is hosting the symposium.
There will be an awards dinner at the RACV Club recognising leadership excellence following the first day of the symposium. Each winner will receive a trophy and a $500 cash prize.
