International launch date coming close

The return of the International brand to Australian shores may take place as early as next week.

According to Prime Mover expert, Peter Shields, Iveco Australia – which now distributes the US truck brand in Australia – has scheduled a media briefing for next Thursday, 23 March, that will likely see the official unveiling of the first International model.

“As teased by Iveco in December 2016, the initial offering will be the Navistar-manufactured ProStar featuring a E5 Cummins X15 SCR engine,” Shields said.

“The 15-litre unit will produce around 550hp (410kW) and 1850 Lb Ft (2,508Nm) of torque, and operators will be able to select from either manual or automated manual transmissions.”

Shields added, “A lot of the finer details have been kept under wraps, but what we already know about the new model is that it will be made available in a number of different specification choices to suit a variety of local applications.

“For example, you can expect the ProStar to be offered in day cab, extended cab and integrated full size sleeper cab variants and a choice of five wheelbases.”
