A $1.65 billion upgrade to 27km of the NSW Hunter Expressway has been funded by the federal and NSW governments to reduce travel times and reduce congestion on the New England Highway.
According to Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Anthony Albanese, the upgrade will reduce travel times between Newcastle and Branxton by half an hour and take up to 30,000 vehicles a day off the New England Highway.
Work on the eastern section of the project began last year in August, with the entire project scheduled for completion by the end of 2013.
