Hino expands market share in medium-duty segment

Hino Australia has announced that the brand’s share of the medium-duty market is up 5.2 per cent compared to the same time last year, according to data published by the Truck Industry Council (TIC). The company has attributed the growth in market share to the success of the 500 Series.

According to TIC, Hino's 500 Series GT leads the medium-duty 4×4 13 to 14-tonne GVM segment outright, while the 500 Series FC and FD models delivered Hino to top spot in the 10.4 to 11-tonne GVM segment.

Hino Australia President and Chief Operating Officer, Steve Lotter, credited the 500 Series' success to the introduction of new models and gearbox options to suit Australian driving behaviour, in addition to a constant effort to improve on customer support.

“The 500 Series in particular has become a very popular choice since the introduction of our ProShift 6 automated manual transmission last year.

“We've introduced new programs that add to our … history of after-sales support, such as complementary roadside assistance for all new-model Hino's under our 'Total Support' initiative,” he said.”In addition, we've introduced an unlimited-kilometre, three-year warranty on all genuine Hino parts and accessories fitted by our technicians.

TIC figures show that total truck sales were 5.1 per cent stronger in the first half of 2013 than for the same period last year with 15,074 trucks sold – the best result since 2008.
