Gwydir Highway closed due to flooding

The Gwydir Highway in northern New South Wales has been closed to due to excessive flooding that has resulted in three landslips on the Gibraltar Range.

According to the Roads and Maritime Services (RMS), staff will be working onsite to repair and reopen the highway as quickly as possible. One lane of the highway is expected to reopen to light vehicles only in the next three to four days.

RMS has advised it could be a further six to eight weeks before the highway is open to heavy vehicles.

Motorists are advised to drive with caution, obey all signs, including detours and reduced speed limits and to allow extra travel time.
