Growth in truck sales continues during February

The Truck Industry Council reports that the number of commercial vehicle sales for February 2013 was a total of 2,334 units, a slight increase of 3.1per cent in sales when compared with the same month in 2012. The total includes 294 vans, so the prime mover and cab-chassis result of 2,040 represents the best monthly result since the GFC.

The Heavy Duty sector was 16.3 per cent higher than for February 2012 with 869 units sold. The result would have been even higher if manufacturers such as Cat Trucks had stock readily available. Cat’s situation is expected to be rectified very shortly when more vehicles arrive from the US based manufacturer.

Tony McMullan, CEO of Truck Industry Council said: “Several TIC members are reporting stock shortages in the short term, so the February market perhaps could have been higher if supply was available. However, the market conditions generally appear to be holding at the heavier end.”
